The Seine Valley with its beautiful light is the birthplace of Impressionism. The famous painter Claude Monet is the leader of this movement and is the father of modern painting. Centuries earlier, the region was the theatre of the confrontation of the English and the French during the 100 Years War. On leaving Paris city, you will drive,through Le Vexin which is one many of the charming parts of Paris' surroundings. Within the hour, you will reach the enchanting village of Giverny. Visit the property of Monet in Giverny, restored thanks to the generosity of American donors, the house and gardens of the impressionist painter Claude Monet represent forty years of his life. Here, he painted his immense Water Lilies series, as well as the Hay-Stacks and Poplars series, the Wisterias, Japanese Bridges, Cathedrals and Mornings on the river Seine. Today, his house has been transformed into a museum, and the gardens have been replanted as Monet wanted them to be. Then onto La Roche Guyon to visit the Castle (and its dungeon). The Lords of La Roche Guyon are attested at the end of 11th century. The situation of their stronghold, at the border between the principality of the Duke of Normandy and the grounds of King de France, enabled them to exploit for a long time the competitions between these two powerful lords to guarantee their independence.
